Good Neighbours Coastal Car Scheme
Community Transport service set up to help elderly and disabled people who are unable to access essential services because of genuine transport need. We have over 50 volunteer drivers and over 500 registered passengers. To access the service you should be over 60, or registered disabled, referred by Social Services (Adult and Community Services) or other caring agency. If you do not fit into one of these categories but have a genuine transport need, then contact us anyway to see if we can help.
Membership fee of £5 per year helps cover the costs of administering the scheme. There is a mileage charge for the scheme which is calculated and notified to you in advance. You then pay the driver. The charge covers the running of the car. Journeys can be to places as far away as Leeds or Hull, to get to local doctors surgeries, visit friends or relatives in hospital, to attend local meetings, to attend day centres, to go shopping or to connect with local public transport services. If possible we would like at least 48 hours notice of any journey to enable us to make the arrangements.
To book a journey, call the number nearest to your location (Whitby, Scarborough or Filey), or call in at the Whitby or Scarborough offices.
If you have a car and some time to spare, would you like to become one of our volunteer drivers. Contact GNCT on Tel: 01947 602982 for more information.
