The  photo above is of the Elder tree adorned with elderberries (photo taken on a lovely walk recently in the Esk Valley.) The elder is a herb which has magical associations throughout Europe. The Romans used elderberry juice as a hair dye and elderflower water was used in the 18th century to whiten the skin and remove freckles. Elderflower juice or wine is often taken in rural areas as a spring tonicthanks to Christine's website for this info!
