National UK charity committed to the prevention of young suicide, particularly teenagers and young adults. The telephone helpline, HOPElineUK is staffed by professionally qualified advisors who can give support, practical advice and information to anyone who is concerned that a young person they know may be suicidal.

Parent to Parent

NCH telephone support scheme for parents, living in Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale, who have children with disabilities. The scheme provides a listening ear and puts parents in touch with others in similar circumstances, enabling them to offer mutual support.

Parents Support Group

Support group for parents of children with disabilities. Meets every Tuesday during term time, 9.30am - 1pm at the Children’s Centre, Cherry Tree Avenue, Scarborough.

Parkinson’s Disease Society – Community Support Workers

The Parkinson’s Disease Society Community Support Workers provide confidential and professional support to people affected by Parkinson’s living locally.


We offer: Visits to people at home and/or telephone support; Emotional support to people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers; Up-to-date information on Parkinson’s and appropriate support services; Welfare benefits advice; Support on how to access local statutory and voluntary services; Advocacy with issues such as pursuing complaints and support during assessments and reviews; Access to other Parkinson’s Disease Society services.

Portage Home Visiting Service

Home teaching service in the Scarborough/ Whitby/ Ryedale area, for pre-school children who have additional needs. The Portage Home Visitor aims to provide support, advice and experience to enable parents to teach their children effectively at home. Each family is visited for about one hour per week by a Home Visitor who, together with the parents, decides which activities will help the child to learn new skills. Parents then teach their child each day for a short period of time.


National organisation aiming to promote change by empowering disabled people to achieve their rights and expectations, and by influencing the way that disabled people are viewed as members of society.

Ransdale House

Rehabilitation and residential home for young deaf people who have a range of additional needs including autism, and learning and physical disabilities. Long and short term care provided. The home is staffed 24 hours per day. Residents are supported to learn skills to aid independence, such as cooking, shopping, using public transport, and there is a garden, summer house and conservatory used for sensory development

Rape Crisis

Advice, information and support for women who are victims of sexual violence, their partners, friends and family. Rape Crisis Helpline is a telephone helpline for telephone counselling, self referrals and information.
