Arrival of Turbine at Ruswarp
Esk Valley Community Energy Group (EVCEG) are a voluntary group originally set up in Danby Parish with the assistance of the Parish Council and the North York Moors National Park Authority. Their mission is to reduce carbon emissions and “Think global and act local”.
In 2008, members of EVCEG set up ‘Esk Energy (Yorkshire) Limited’, an Industrial and Provident Society (for the benefit of the community), to fund the installation of a 50 kw Hydro Electric Generator on the south side of the River Esk at Ruswarp, near Whitby.
The energy will be produced at Ruswarp weir by the installation of an Archimedes screw turbine, driving the generator.
The turbine is expected to arrive on site about 9a.m. on Tuesday 4th September.
Esk Energy Yorkshire Ltd. Are inviting anyone interested to join them and watch the turbine being lowered into place, weather permitting.
